STYLED SHOOT: RETRO DISCO INDUSTRIAL WEDDING

INSPIRATION AND STORY BEHIND THE SHOOT

After seeing some awesome floral suits I knew I wanted to style a shoot with this concept, bold, different. This was brought to life with discussions with Sarita White Photography who also has a similar love for creating something out there and J Austin Design’s brilliant floral designs bringing in a real floral cape instead of actual suits. We all wanted something bright, retro made contemporary, mixed with both outdoor and industrial backdrops. So, when we met at the venue, we all knew we needed to showcase something completely new and diverse, so I got my thinking cap and decided a ceremony in the field with mixed vintage boudoir chairs and a retro backdrop would be the starting point.

TELL US ABOUT THE TEAM INVOLVED

Introduced to us by Sarita White Photography, Mapperley Farm Events Venue, Derbyshire is also a working farm, owned and managed directly by Rosie and Sam and is one of the biggest in the area with an abundance of fields, two pergolas, a beautiful barn room and courtyard and the couple have the whole venue to themselves. I was so chuffed to have found the perfect suppliers that were local and fitted perfectly with the style of the shoot and everyone was super supportive and helpful and really supplied some amazing talent.

I have worked with most of the suppliers previously, Sarita White Photography is on the same creative wave length as me, we can chat, laugh and talk about ideas until we have planned around 10 shoots at a time but it works, always. She always gets the right shots and I loved working through ideas with her on this shoot. And this time she came with Craig and his drone and the footage is insane!

J Austin Designs has so many incredible ideas with her love for succulents and flowers. Emily at Bluebell Press UK provided this awesome set of retro stationery and Lifeofabeautygirl Sam Cahill gave Russ a little highlight and brow and lash haul (he does wear a little anyway and loved this experience). Natalie from Cakes by Natalie came with the most beautiful cake and we all got to take some home too! Karen from standout ceremonies is so welcoming and I had met her last year so was so lovely to work together and she did make us laugh with her jokes to help the couple feel relaxed. All those smiles and laughs are real! The suit lounge provided a lovely cream suit and dark burnt orange jacket with black lapels to fit our 70s input and Stacie at Smithy’s Events UK so kindly provided the final touch with the loan of their cool neon sign.

Keeping on theme Sarita found a true vintage 70s scooter owned locally and which the owner brought to the venue for us to use. The couple loved rolling it, a few times just to get the right shots.

Leon and Russ, our real engaged couple were so cool, had so much banter, laughed, danced (Russ) and really got into the shoot. Throughout the shoot we played a random playlist for a funky atmosphere, even got Russ up dancing in his floral cape which he absolutely flaunted and the whole day was just so much fun. Rain dodging, wind dodging, rolling the scooter, setting off smoke bombs, a failed attempt peacock hunting (the farm down the road has six!), cake eating (o.m.g this was wow…even the venue’s little dog tried to get some!!) and prosecco drinking (for the couple…the bit that didn’t hit the photographer). The perfect ending!!
