Richard & Ricardo’s relaxed London city wedding

DO YOU WANT TO TELL US ABOUT YOUR PROPOSAL?

It just sort of happened. Ricky kept saying “when we get married”… Richard just went with it with a “whatever, whenever” attitude. And then we started talking about it properly, decided to do it for real and told our families. So no real proposal.

WHAT WAS THE THEME AND INSPIRATION FOR THE DAY?

No real theme, although we did use peacock feathers as button holes and had a peacock coloured cake (blues and greens). Wanted something different!

TELL US ABOUT THE CEREMONY AND RECEPTION LOCATIONS. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THE VENUE AND WHAT DID YOU LIKE ABOUT IT?

Ceremony was Marylebone Registry Office, London. Because we wanted somewhere that was central for people to travel to and somewhere iconic!. Very impressive building and everyone knows the name when you say it. Reception, because of Covid had to be moved from the hotel we chose to Sergios in Great Titchfield Street, London. And this was on a recommendation. They pulled out all the stops to make our 30 guests had a great time. We were glad we went there. Made us feel so special on the day and nothing was too much trouble. Been back twice since for dinner, between lockdowns!

FLOWERS & DECORATIONS

Flowers were by a florist at Bloomsbury Flowers, Covent Garden, and Sergios decoration by a chap who’s name we’ve forgotten, but he’s a drag queen in other times, so you can imagine – balloons, flowers, completely fabulous again.

FOOD

Italian ( a nod to Ricky’s family), whatever people wanted from the menu – we had the whole of the downstairs to ourselves. Food portions enormous and fabulous.

CAKE

Peacock coloured with 2 tiers – one chocolate sponge, the other vanilla

TELL US ABOUT YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER

Lindsey Robertson – a friend of Richard’s who met at the gym, doing body balance classes!. Absolutely superb. Wouldn’t have wanted anyone else and would wholeheartedly recommend her for any work. The 800 pictures we had to whittle down to chose an album from, proved a hugely difficult choice, testament to her photographic skills. Everyone remarked how good she was.

WHAT WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT AND MOST FUN PART FOR YOU?

For people to have fun and celebrate with us. Best part was the speeches….tears flowing all round.

WOULD YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Don’t be swayed – do what you want, not what you think others might expect, or that you feel you “should|” do. And if you do it during Covid times, just go with any changes, as there are hundreds of others in exactly the same boat as you.
