Today we are joining Ben and Paul and their super stylish wedding photographed and shared with us by Mini & Me Photography.
TELL US THE STORY OF HOW YOU MET
I (Paul) saw Ben on a mutual friends Facebook page, casually mentioned to our friend that I thought Ben was good looking and was he single?.. Then our friend put us in touch and the rest is history.
NOW ABOUT THE BIG DAY! WHAT WAS THE THEME AND INSPIRATION? HOW DID THE DAY LOOK LIKE? DID YOU STYLE IT YOURSELF?
We were keen to have a masculine wedding, something different and modern. We didn’t start with a plan nor theme it developed in time looking at Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration. I (Paul) started buying ‘stuff’ I’d see something that fitted into the 5 colours we’d chosen; Navy, Black, White, Grey and Silver (a lot of colours really) anyway every month I’d add to the collection which then started to take on a geometric theme, which started from our stationary. Somehow it all came together on the day and looked amazing we received so many lovely comments about the details.
YOUR WEDDING PLANNER
TELL US ABOUT THE CEREMONY AND RECEPTION LOCATIONS. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THE VENUE AND WHAT DID YOU LIKE ABOUT IT?
We wanted to choose a local venue to us as we were keen to have as many people at our wedding as we could. We chose Millbridge Court as we loved that it was a modern venue. It feels contemporary and instantly embraced both of us on our visit. We loved that we could make our own changes to a couple of things through hiring tables and chairs that we loved when we went to our tasting evening.
We were keen to buy our suits and found a FCUK navy suit from Moss Bros that had a modern finish to it, hard to explain but we didn’t want tails or a standard work suit and one that we could use again rather than it be boxed up in the loft. We then chose different waistcoats again FCUK Ben in light blue and Paul in light grey. Our Best Men (Ben had Al and Paul had Darren and Marc) wore the same suit but with matching waistcoats and polka dot shirts also randomly FCUK (we should have taken shares out!). Ben then also had a Best Woman (Hayley) and we said to Hayley in a very boring male way “get a navy dress you like and we’ll pay” and she did and she looked beautiful!
FLOWERS & DECORATIONS
We chose our florist BlackBerry and Bloom because she had created a wedding at our venue with no flowers just foliage and it looked amazing, we weren’t that brave in the end and we had foliage and white peonies which were stunning on the day! She came round our house to see all the ‘stuff’ Paul had been buying over the months and when we laid it out covering every spare bit of side we had in the house! We realised we had brought too much! We started to work that afternoon creating the final designs with all these bottles, jars, geometric candle holders, black candle holders, block candles you name it we had it!
We used empty blue and clear spirits bottles which we drank all in name of the wedding decorations, Neals Yard were kind to save their blue bottles and give us those of all sizes which worked great on the tables.
At one stage it was going to look like a car boot sale when we first laid it all out at home in the planning stages.
On the day it just all came together it was fantastic!
One of the main things for us was the stationary and the importance of getting that right and on theme made it all flow from the invites that gave a taste through to the signs and menus that followed it all through on the day. We used Nats Paper Studio who worked with us to give personal stationary that reflected our personalities and senses of humour.
Wow the cake! We used Bespoke Bakes and when we met Danielle and talked flavours we knew we were going to get something amazing! So we went with Carrot cake with passion fruit cream, then Chocolate fudge with peppermint cream and to top it off red velvet with white chocolate.
The look – we again wanted to be different and had a navy base layer, a grey and white marbled middle section with black geometric stripes on, then to top it off a white layer with white dripped icing to edge.
We chose not to have a topper as we wanted the cake to be the star.
We had an acoustic duet sing for our guests called Pop Acoustics who guests loved and got the atmosphere going for the rest of the day (that and the free wine!)
Then our evening band Listen Up! Stole the day they were fantastic the dance floor was packed! They said they hadn’t seen a wedding in a while where so many guests danced all night! Loved them!
TELL US ABOUT YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER
Not much to say really… took a few snaps and left… hahaha!!
The photographers Mini and Me were not just our photographers they were our rocks throughout! They made us feel so comfortable in being ourselves from our engagement shoot through to the last dance!
We got on so well with them and that can be seen in every photo they shot! Our guests loved them and have shared some hilarious photo’s of them and they’re in our album as guests not photographers!
We could write paragraphs of how lovely, amazing, super talented these guys are!
We never realised how important it was to have the right photographers for your personality and your wedding vibe but now that we and our family and friends flick through our wedding magazine on our coffee table at every opportunity (Paul every Sunday before watching Gardeners world) and remember the day so vividly because they captured every moment is something we will be forever grateful for!
We didn’t need one of them we had the worlds best photographers.
WHAT WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT AND MOST FUN PART FOR YOU?
After the actual marriage bit the most important thing for us was that everyone had fun! Looking at the bar tab… they did!
We both can’t pick a moment as every moment on our wedding day was amazing! Our guests were in the party mood and the day just went from there!
WOULD YOU HAVE ANY PIECE OF ADVICE FOR COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?
Enjoy it! Don’t get so lost in the planning you forget to enjoy it we loved planning it as much as the actual day as we didn’t put pressure on ourselves, guests want to have a good time, free wine and to party they won’t know that something didn’t work or wasn’t quite right.
Things did go wrong on our day (it rained all day) even though we did everything we could to ensure they didn’t, but did they matter.. No! Just enjoy the time with friends and family!
