HOW DID YOU MEET?
We met online (good old gaydargirls!) and after a few messages back and forth decided to meet face to face for a coffee in Starbucks. That coffee lasted about 4 hours! We even went back on our one year anniversary and recreated the date – it wasn’t 4 hours second time round though!
As we are from the North East both of our families and a lot of friends had to travel a significant distance for our wedding. We tried to make it as easy as possible for them by choosing a venue where we could have everything in one place and also ‘make a weekend of it’. We wanted our day to be as authentically ‘us’ as possible, after this the most important thing to us was to make our guests feel as valued as possible. Our inspiration was ourselves, our story so far and the things we like. We are well known for socialising events where everyone has a good time, nice food, booze and often board games. This formed a theme for our day – the save the dates were paper fortune tellers, our seating plan was a personalized monopoly board, and the favours were travel board games for the children and scrabble tile initial keyrings for the adults. We are also known for being quite last minute/spontaneous people which is why we decided to set the date and plan the wedding in six months. We knew that even if we had two years to plan it we would do it all in the last six months anyway so it didn’t seem worth waiting! We are both willing to get stuck in and Kira is a creative person so we DIY’d as much of the wedding as we could. This meant we made the save the dates, invitations, order of services, seating plan, favours, name cards, table names, advice cards, guestbook hearts and Jenga, I-Spy selfie sticks, hangover kits, dried petal confetti, all flowers, table decorations and various signage.
Alberto: I live and work in Lugano in my hairdressing salon, and Lorenzo is from Parma, a city in the heart of Italy. We meet the fist time on September during a Disco party with friends in Verona (city of lovers… was it be a chance?).
I was a staff member and my rope was door selection. Lorenzo, after saw me nearby entrance, worked up the nerve and engaged me during party and so we spent together the rest of the night.
After a while without some together time for our respective work reasons, we had another meeting and we finally fall in love.
Now Lorenzo has came to live here in Lugano with me and we’re looking for a more spacious house where live with the our “furry sons”, two chihuahua dogs named Pedro and Oscar. Now our aim is to have their first holiday together, marked with relax.. but maybe not to much!
My name is Carolina and I am starting my business as an alternative and LGBTQ Wedding Planner in Madrid and Gran Canaria.
Everything bridal related is still quite traditional here, and a lot of people think that getting married means being the center of attention of a very formal event that has nothing to do with them. For most of them the first image that crosses their mind is a Catholic Church Wedding so they kind of get scared off. This makes me sad, because they think they can’t have a special day.
What really gets me excited is the change in their faces when I explain that getting married doesn’t have to be like that.
I believe a wedding is about a couple that love each other, that have a unique relationship and deserve a unique celebration. I ask them what they’re passionate about, how they met, what it is that they reallly love and have in common and start designing from there.

Kate and Becky met in Beijing, currently live in Cambodia and got married in Nottinghamshire.
We got married at The Pumping House, which is a beautiful converted pumping station on the edge of Sherwood Forest.
Jo (the Venue Manager) was incredible. Very organized and just lovely.
March 1st 2017 was a huge date for Finland – that’s when same sex marriage became legal. That day Raùl and Hannu got married along 8 other happy couples at a theatre in downtown Helsinki. This is what they told us about themselves and their big day.

How did you meet?
We met via Instagram in March 2016. We started chatting and fell in love after a while. Hannu visited Mexico in summer 2016 and Raul moved to Finland in October 2016.

Tell us about the day! What was the theme, inspiration, the most important and most fun part for you?
Our wedding day was very special because it was the day when same sex marriages became legal in Finland.
We were invited to take part in this historical event “Finally getting married” The whole program was planned by a gay friendly theatre Kapsäkki in Helsinki and everything was sponsored by the Koneen Säätiö.
The planner and producer of the wedding event was Petri Pöyhönen.
We also had really fun time with our wedding photo shoot. Our photographer Satu Mali was very nice and she made us feel very comfortable.
Of course the most important part of the day was the actual wedding ceremony. It took place on a theatre stage. We were there together with 8 other couples.

Top 5 tips for planning your wedding
Planning your dream wedding takes lots of time, effort and organisation. If you’re not sure where to start or are struggling for inspiration, here are our top five tips you’ll need to consider when planning your wedding.
1. Budget and allow 10-15% extra for little surprises
Setting a budget may be boring, but it is an essential that you set this first, as this will influence every decision you make for your wedding. Do plenty of research and set a rough budget before you start planning. It can be quite daunting when you make a list of everything you need and you’ll be surprised how quickly it all adds up. When shopping around for quotes confirm with the retailer or supplier whether they include VAT. If not, you may find you’ll be hit with an invoice for more than originally quoted. If you are finding your budget is going over, make a list of priority items you must have, as well as another list for ‘would like to have’. This will make sticking to your budget much easier!
2. The Personal Touch
Use the skills of your friends and family to help you make your day individual and special for you. Once the big things are sorted, think about the details that will make your day special. What do you enjoy doing as a couple? How did you meet? Where were your first dates? Let the inspiration for your day come from the journey you have already taken together. Guests love a wedding that has a really personal touch. For instance, you may have a mutual love of a particular band or holiday destination.
When I saw these guys on Instagram I instantly wished I could hang out with them, just look at these smiles!!
They got hitched in Palm Springs, the mecca of fun and modernist architecture. The couple and their closest friends all stayed at the Airbnb house where they relaxed, swam in the pool and enjoyed some delicious cocktails. The ceremony was held on property and all the guests hung out and enjoyed each other’s company after the intimate ceremony.

Planning a destination wedding can be very overwhelming and many couples decide not to follow their dreams of a wedding abroad purely because of the amount of work it may take to organise.
